Jim's greatest pride was his career in the USMC. And it was a grand adventure. As a young Enlisted Marine, he served with Force Reconnaissance Units and saw two tours in Vietnam with them.
In 1970, Jim was Commissioned as a Warrant Officer and designated a permanent Naval Aviator. In this capacity, he served the last 17 years of his career as an Aerial Observer in the OV-10 Bronco. He was never happier. In his role as an A.O., he was a plank holder in MAWTS-1, MCAS-Yuma. He was an instructor, mentor and friend to the OV-10 community. As such, he built lasting friendships with aviators in all phases of Marine Air.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James F. Doner and Bernadette Dixon. He is survived by his widow, Florence; his children, James F. III and Maureen (Roy) Hulsey. And his most recent pride and joy, his grandsons, Carter and Caleb Clarke. In addition, he is survived by siblings, Dennis, Bernadette, Theresa and Maura.
There will be a Viewing and Prayer Service at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be served on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, followed by burial at Holy Hope Cemetery immediately after.
